Energy

The energy sector in Poland seems to have large growth prospects ahead. Especially attractive seem the chances of those investors who are interested in the energy distribution and investments in new capacity. Many years of neglect in these fields, combined with consistently growing demand for electricity could make the energy sector one of the main engines of our economy in the coming years. Large capital-intensive investments in this sector force investors to actively search for external funding. The European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and finally the European Union’s new budget funds are its main sources. The share of renewable energy in total output of energy in Poland is increasing slowly but surely. Still open is the debate on nuclear energy – significant costs combined with a lack of full social acceptance of this method of energy production delay the strategic decisions. Not to be overlooked is a strong coal mining lobby – its significant share in the Polish energy market and related limitations make these matters highly complex.
